Twice a year, Shopify presents Shopify Editions, the launch where it brings together all the new functionalities that will be coming to the platform. In this Spring '26 edition, it announced more than 150 updates, but, as often happens, not all of them will have the same impact on all stores.
This year's edition sends a very clear message: the future of e-commerce no longer consists solely of selling from an online store, but of being present where customers discover products, even within artificial intelligence tools.
These are the new features that I consider most relevant.
1. Shopify is fully committed to AI-powered commerce
Without a doubt, this is the most important announcement of Spring '26.
Until recently, most traffic came from Google, social media, or paid campaigns. Today, consumers are starting to search for products directly in tools like ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, or Gemini.
To respond to this change, Shopify introduced an infrastructure so that products can appear within these assistants through Shopify Catalog, which organizes and distributes product information to these new channels.
What does this mean for brands?
-
Greater visibility without relying exclusively on traditional SEO.
-
Better structured product information.
-
New customer acquisition channels.
-
Greater preparation for the growth of conversational commerce.
In other words, the product page is starting to be as important for AI as it was previously for Google.
2. Sidekick evolves and becomes a true business assistant
Shopify introduced a much more powerful version of Sidekick, its AI-powered assistant.
Now it can help you to:
-
Analyze store performance.
-
Generate reports.
-
Explain changes in metrics.
-
Execute administrative tasks.
-
Integrate with third-party applications to simplify daily operations.
The intention is clear: spend less time on operational tasks and more time on business strategy.
3. Checkout continues to be optimized to increase conversion
Shopify continues to reinforce one of its greatest differentiators: its checkout process.
Key improvements include:
-
A cleaner checkout for mobile devices.
-
Payment methods dynamically ordered according to conversion probability.
-
Ability to combine home delivery and in-store pickup within the same order.
-
Better support for international markets and local currencies.
These are changes that the customer may not consciously notice, but which help to reduce friction during purchase and improve the conversion rate.
4. Shopify Markets continues to mature
For brands that sell in different countries, Spring '26 incorporates new tools to manage international markets from a single store.
Now it will be easier to manage:
-
Variants by market.
-
Region-specific promotions.
-
Gift Cards in local currency.
-
Payment methods adapted to each country.
This reduces the need to create multiple stores for international operations and facilitates global expansion.
5. B2B receives important improvements
Companies that sell wholesale also receive interesting new features.
Among them:
-
Company or location-specific discounts.
-
Greater flexibility to combine promotions.
-
Automations for different customer segments.
Each edition demonstrates that Shopify continues to strengthen its B2B ecosystem, allowing more complex operations to be managed without leaving the platform.
6. Shopify POS continues to bring physical retail closer to e-commerce
For those with physical stores, Shopify POS incorporates improvements focused on speed and seller experience.
Among them:
-
Faster checkout processes.
-
Better management of returns and exchanges.
-
New tools to operate even offline.
-
Better integration between physical and online inventory.
The goal remains to offer an omnichannel experience where the physical store and the online store function as a single business.
7. An important update for Shopify Plus stores
Although it is not a new functionality, Shopify reminded us of a change that many stores should keep in mind.
Shopify Scripts will stop working permanently, so all customizations must be migrated to Shopify Functions.
If your store still uses Scripts for discounts, payment methods, or custom shipping rules, it is important to plan this transition to avoid operational disruptions.
More than new features, a new direction for Shopify
If Shopify Editions Spring '26 makes one thing clear, it's that the platform is evolving far beyond being just software for creating online stores. Every update points to the same goal: helping brands sell wherever their customers are, whether on social media, marketplaces, physical stores, or even within conversations driven by artificial intelligence.
For businesses, this represents a great opportunity, but also a challenge. It will be increasingly important to maintain well-structured catalogs, complete product sheets, a solid omnichannel strategy, and processes prepared to take advantage of the new tools that Shopify makes available.
Undoubtedly, Spring '26 marks the beginning of a new stage in e-commerce, where automation, artificial intelligence, and customer experience will cease to be a differentiator and become the new standard.
